KARA BACKHOUS
About Kara
Kara is a graduate of Melbourne University’s Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music Theatre). In her time at VCA Kara trained in singing, dancing and acting. As part of her training Kara has worked with some of Australia’s and America’s finest singing teachers, choreographers, musical directors and directors. Kara teaches a range of styles including musical theatre, pop/contemporary and legit. Having trained in Musical Theatre Kara is trained in safe singing techniques that allow performers to sing safely and efficiently. Dancing since the age of four, Kara has acquired skills in a range of styles including Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Contemporary and Hip Hop and has also completed Grade 6 AMEB Piano. Kara’s wide range of skills in the Performing Arts allows her to help her students become well-rounded performers. Kara loves teaching, having taught dance for seven years as well as teaching singing for the last seven years. Kara has her Working with Children Check.

About Janet
Janet has a Bachelor in Education majoring in Music and Drama, her AMusA in Piano, and over 40 years experience teaching the performing arts to young people. A number of Janet’s students have gone on to study performing arts at a tertiary level at institutes such as, Federation University, The National Institute of Dramatic Art and The Victorian College of the Arts. She has taught both Drama and Theatre Studies at VCE level and has directed many successful secondary school variety performances and plays. She has also provided opportunities for regional students to work with theatre companies from Geelong and Melbourne to create new theatre. These companies went on to tour the works they had co-written with Janet and her students. Janet loves teaching and it gives her great joy to see her students reach their fullest potential and she also happens to also be an awesome Mum to Kara. Janet has her Working with Children Check and she is thrilled to be working with Willow Studios.
Janet will be teaching Piano in Ocean Grove and Colac in 2024.
